Misael Oquendo: Temenos
@ Tala
1644 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Friday, March 14th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, April 12th
We are thrilled to announce ???????, a solo exhibition by Misael José Oquendo, opening Friday March 14th 6-9PM
In ???????, Los Angeles-based artist Misael Oquendo presents a world of echoes. Through AI-generated images, video, and sculptural elements, the works dissolve the boundary between the organic and the synthetic, pulling us into a space of reflection and transformation. Rooted in the ancient Greek concept of temenos—a sanctified enclosure where meaning is both preserved and transfigured—the exhibition lingers in the tension between nature and artifice, slowness and acceleration, the original and its replica.
Opening night at 7PM, we will also present a special screening of ???????’? ?????? (2024), one of Oquendo’s latest experimental short films. ???????’? ?????? navigates a surreal mythology of hunger and transformation—its protagonist Gothico is trapped in a cycle of desire, ritual, and dissolution. Like ???????, the film plays with the instability of desire and yearning, exploring how sentiment and meaning—both natural and artificial—are reshaped by the forces that consume them.
Opening Reception: Friday 3/14, 6–9PM
???????’? ??????, (2024) screening at 7PM on opening night
On view through April 12, 2025
See you there! ?
