A Day at the Shore: Ecologists and Environmental Advocates

MoCP is delighted to host Great Lakes Region ecologists, environmental advocates, and the general public as part of Shore|Lines for a day of public events. Co-moderated by Asha Iman Veal, MoCP Associate Curator, and Libia Bianibi, Deputy Director at Building Equity and Alignment for Environmental Justice

11:00 am Film Screening: “Descendant” (2022)

Special post-show conversation with Kamau Sadiki, Board Member of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers and the Diving with a Purpose international organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of submerged heritage resources.

Assistant Professor at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Community Design Director at Architecture for Public Benefit, focusing on water access and challenging racial perceptions and values of waterscapes.

Director of Litigation & Advocacy Partnerships at Earthjustice Master Teacher and Certified Wildlife Biologist, Poet, Birder, and MacArthur Foundation Awardee

3:00 pm Audio Walk:

Join artist JeeYeun Lee and environmentalist Billie Kerner (Pokagon Band of Potawatomi) in an outdoor audio walk that contemplates the lakefront as a liminal space between land and water, simultaneously a public good, treaty violation, and strategy to suppress insurgence.
