Light Preserver
@ Joy Machine
4148 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Friday, February 21st, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
On view through Saturday, April 12th
Join us for the opening of Joy Machine, a new art gallery in Irving Park. We’re so thrilled to share our inaugural exhibition, Light Preserver, which features work by Moises Salazar, David Heo, Liz Flores, Peter Frederiksen, Danym Kwon, Lisa Congdon, Michael McGrath, Jeff Rubio, and Abi Castillo.
Light Preserver presents artworks by nine artists who cultivate and ritualize joy through humor, nostalgia, vibrancy, and the excitement of new possibilities. Whether reflecting on childhood fun or invoking art’s ability to rescue us from depression, each artist taps into our shared humanity—not to evade difficult realities but to find meaning and purpose amid chaos. In this way, joy becomes an essential antidote to despair and a fundamental lifeline to keep us all afloat.
