CHLEE: OF GIRLS AND MEN
Curator: Monica J. Brown
Opening Reception: Fri, Feb 7, 5:30-7pm; Artist Talk: 6:15pm

Chicago artist Candace Hunter (chlee) at the start of shelter-in-place, created a new series, The Brown Limbed Girls- a series of collage works that exhibited joy, mirth, and life. The “girls” laughed at our collective situation. They festooned billboards for The City of Chicago’s Covid awareness campaign, garnered chlee a solo show with the Stella Jones Gallery in New Orleans, the Thelma Harris Gallery in Oakland, and graced the walls of collectors across the country.

Wanting to honor her father and brothers, she then created the Black Men/White Shirts series. All of these collages speak of joy and a bit of history.
In 2024 chlee had a major solo show at the Hyde Park Art Center, became a Resident at Arts + Public Life, showed at the Venice Biennale, SCOPE Contemporary Art Fair Miami, and EXPO Chicago. She exhibited in several group shows including Woman Made Gallery’s, “Through a BIPOC Lens…” and APL’s “Remembering Ghosts.”
