Anthony Gallery is thrilled to announce “Looks Can Be Deceiving”, a group exhibition featuring new work by seven contemporary artists. An opening is slated for Thursday, May 23rd, and the exhibition will remain on view in Gallery Room Two alongside Andrew Park’s “The Places We Built” in Gallery Room One through June 22nd.
The program considers nostalgia as a symptom of hyperreality, where paintings exist as idealized simulations that blur the lines between the real and the remembered. Subjects like old movie stills, childhood toys, and retro brand revivals become poignant examples of how sentimental memory is manufactured to sell idealized representations of the past.
