Join us on Saturday, October 19 at 3pm for a talk between current gallery artist Jordan Martins and Giovanni Aloi, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art History, Theory and Criticism at SAIC on the subjects of plant strategies, animal tactics, camouflage aesthetics and more, in conjunction with “Jordan Martins: Plant Strategies” and “Animal Tactics: Devin Balara, David Heo, Kelly Kristin Jones and João Oliveira.
Professor Aloi is the founder of the journal ‘Antennae, the Journal of Nature in Visual Culture’ and the author of numerous books, including Art & Animals (IBTauris: 2011); Antennae 10: A Decade of Art and the Non-Human (Antennaeproject/Forlaget 248: 2017); Speculative Taxidermy: New Animals Surfaces and Art in the Anthropocene (Columbia University Press: 2018); Why Look at Plants? (Brill: 2018); Animal: An Exploration of the Zoological World (Phaidon: 2018), Botanical Speculations: Plants and Contemporary Art (Cambridge: Cambridge Scholars: 2019), Lucian Freud Herbarium (NYC/London: Prestel).
