Jane’s Walk Chicago is partnering with Common Ground for Community Day at Overton: Making Space Together, part of the Chicago Architecture Biennial for a walking tour starting at the (Former) Anthony Overton Elementary School.
What is the “social architecture” that holds communities together? How does memory define a place? Who makes culture today? How is prejudice embedded in urban space? What can policy-makers learn from Black power, resilience, and joy?
Explore this and more on a critical walking tour exploring the past and present of Bronzeville. From Black Metropolis, to vice district, to queer mecca, to a modern-day font of culture, inspiration, and entrepreneurship – Bronzeville has something for everyone.
