Amina Ross: Black Hair, Intimacy and Touch

Join Amina Ross, Arts + Public Life/Center for Study of Race, Politics and Culture 2018-19 Artist-in-Residence, for a hands-on, conversation-driven workshop on our relationship to black hair, intimacy and touch. What stories does Black hair hold? The final iteration of this workshop will be presented as a program within the Havana Biennial in collaboration with Cuban artist Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo. This will be an in-progress workshop to help provide feedback to Amina, before the final program presents in Havana.

About Amina Ross
Amina Ross (they/them) is an undisciplined creator. They work across mediums, including video installations, sculpture, and curatorial engagements. Ross has exhibited work, spoken on panels, and taught workshops in various spaces throughout the United States. Ross is a lecturer at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Co-Lead Artist of Teen Creative Agency at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. About Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo
Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo (b. 1984) lives and works in Havana, Cuba. Her work explores the obstacles and challenges that women face from both a personal and global perspective. Working mainly in video, photography, and drawing, Matienzo is unflinching in her approach to address the act and effects of violence against women, often producing powerful and disruptive visual images. From 1998 until 2008 Matienzo studied in the Elemental school of Visual Art, the Fine Arts Academy and the High Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. She pursued post-graduate studies in New Media, from 2011 to 2013 at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany. – www.apexart.org/fellowship/matienzo.php
