The National Museum of Mexican Art cordially invites you to join us for the opening reception for two extraordinary exhibition ¡No se olvida! Remembering the Tlatelolco Massacre on Friday, September 21st from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
On the night of October 2, 1968 the Mexican military and police killed around 325 students and civilians, and arrested more than 1300 protestors in Mexico City’s Tlatelolco neighborhood. Only ten days before the opening ceremony of the summer Olympics in the same city, the massacre in the Plaza of the Three Cultures was immediately covered up and officially disregarded for decades. This contemporary exhibition conveys some of the history on the 50th anniversary of the tragic night of Tlatelolco.
En la noche del 2 de octubre de 1968, la policía y el ejército mexicano mataron a cerca de 325 estudiantes y civiles además de arrestar a más de 1300 manifestantes en el barrio de Tlatelolco en la Ciudad de México. A solamente diez días y en la misma ciudad en donde se llevó a cabo la ceremonia de apertura de las Olimpiadas de verano, la masacre en la Plaza de las Tres Culturas fue inmediatamente encubierta e ignorada oficialmente por décadas. Esta exposición contemporánea transmite parte de la historia de la trágica noche de Tlatelolco a los 50 años de ocurrida.
