Found Footage Workshop
@ Chicago Filmmakers
5720 N Ridge Ave, Chicago, IL 60660
Opening Sunday, September 16th, from 10AM - 3PM
The purpose of this workshop is to educate experimental filmmakers, documentary directors and producers on the uses and benefits of Found Footage filmmaking. This workshop is also for those who intend to appropriate footage created by other individuals on a regular basis and for job or art-related purposes. Found Footage is also known as ‘Appropriated Footage,’ or ‘Remixed Footage.’ It is the act of transforming a moving image that one has ‘found’ or ‘discovered’ into a new piece of work. It has particularly important ramifications for today’s media culture in which YouTube, Vimeo and other content sharing platforms have made it particularly easy for anybody to simply download and make use of anybody else’s content. This workshop will explore both the creative and legal sides of Found Footage Filmmaking. There will also be an emphasis on editing and experimental film styles, as well as, emphasis on fair use and copyright. This is an exploratory, creative and business-oriented workshop for experimental film artists, documentary filmmakers and producers, and film students alike.
