The Wild Sculptures
@ Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk
2001 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60614
Opening Monday, October 30th, from 10:30AM - 11:30AM
Join us for the Unveiling of the Wild Marshall Square Sculpture Project. A multi-generational public art project exploring Chimpanzees through the eyes of Children.
These chimpanzees were selected from move than 200 drawings by children from Telpochcalli, Hammond and Spry elementary schools. They were adapted into life-sized sculptures by J. Omar Magaña, an artist and founder of OPEN Center for the Arts located in the Marshall Square Little Village community.
The Children based these drawings on observations they made during their field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo in 2017. They saw chimpanzees eating carrots and retrieving food from simulated termite mounds with sticks, a form of tool use scientists have also witnessed in the wild.
Lincoln Park Zoo and the Marshall Square/Little Village community are co-creating projects that connect people with nature.
