Join Hyde Park Art Center for a full day of art and activities!

Featuring new exhibitions, art making, open studios, and a student art sale. This is also a great opportunity to register for fall quarter art classes for youth and adults! This event is free and open to the public.

1-4 PM: SECOND SUNDAY ART ACTIVITIES
Create something fun at the Art Center’s series of free, family friendly art making activities led by Hyde Park Art Center professional teaching artists.

1-3 PM: PUBLIC CRITIQUE, NEW BUSINESS
Join exhibiting artists from New Business as they present works, talk about their process, and answer questions.

2-5 PM: OPEN STUDIOS
Meet our resident artists and get an inside look at their studios and practices.

Flex Space Resident Shonna Pryor will be hosting a ‘take one, leave one’ Recipe Swap that celebrates the food recipe as a vehicle of culture sharing, storytelling, and the relevant metaphor of ‘instructions toward fair and peaceful resolve’. Pryor believes there is a sense of empowerment in bearing a set of instructions conducive to likely success. Please join us and pin your contribution to the recipe wall in Studio 2.

3-5 PM: EXHIBITION RECEPTION: NEW BUSINESS and GROUND FLOOR

New Business: 2016 Center Program Final Exhibition – Hyde Park Art Center is proud to present the fifth annual exhibition of work from participants in The Center Program, the Art Center’s flagship artist professional development initiative. This year’s exhibit, guest curated by Dan Devening, features work by includes work by Alejandro Acierto, Kayla Anderson, Miguel Aguilar, Jeffrey Austin, James Britt, John Browe, Marian Carow, Mel Cook, Marcelo Eli, Brent Fogt, Deirdre Fox, Victoria Fuller, Eric J. Garcia, Azadeh Gholizadeh, Stephanie Graham, Yvette Kaiser Smith, Kelly Lloyd, Stacza Lipinski, Fidencio Martinez, Randall Miller, Injung Oh, Suzanne Torres, Melissa Weber, and Gwendolyn Zabicki.

Ground Floor: A Biennial Exhibition of New Art from Chicago – Hyde Park Art Center’s first floor features art by outstanding recent graduates from each of Chicago’s Master of Fine Arts programs: Columbia College Chicago, Northwestern University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. The exhibition brings together work by Chicago’s most promising emerging talent, offering a single destination to see work by diverse artists. “Ground Floor” 2016 artists are: Yael Ben-Simon, Kai Caemmerer, Lilli Carré,Adrienne Ciskey, Jeanne Donegan, Lucia Gonzalez Botello, Erin Hayden, Angela Lopez, Gulsah Mursaloglu, Meg Nafziger, Monica Nydam, Allyson Packer, Jeffrey Prokash, Bailey Romaine, Sara Rouse, Anna Showers-Cruser, Leonard Suryajaya, Norman Teague, Orkideh Torabi, Aaron Walker, Eileen Walsh, and Derrick Woods-Morrow.
