Daniel Schmid: Where There’s Smoke…
@ Peanut Gallery
1000 N California Ave Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Sunday, May 25th, from 5PM - 9PM
On view through Sunday, June 22nd
Sliding straight down the slope of painterly tradition, Daniel Schmid gracefully inhabits the 21st century contemporary art discourse, conceptualizing his aesthetically traditional work just enough to make it a little more fun to make, more fun to look at, more fun to think about. This series of paintings and clay shapes was inspired by forest fires — a great, uncontrollable force of nature — billowing with grey plumes of smoke, punctuated by tiny evergreens and slashes of orange fire. Schmid’s work reflects a deep regard and almost romantic contemplation of both nature and paint, a mushy homage to the great outdoors.
Daniel Schmid (1989, Denver, CO) lives and works in Chicago IL and earned his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. “Where There’s Smoke…” is his first solo exhibition in Chicago.
